As you know, I am in need of a tire from last weeks activities, and I have a back up bike that's very hard to ride....Well I have another bike(That I previously thought couldn't make it) and it's a Ross ten speed...No, that's not a typo, it's a ten speed! Needless to say, it's old. But I was going to try it anyway. I decided I was going to ride and told my wife as much, she said "Be careful! it's 95) I told her I'm a big boy and I'll make sure to drink my H20. I took the long way and picked up a friend that I work with, he rides his bike as well. It was hot, I'm not gonna lie, but you learn to deal with heat when you work in a cold forming factory! I was very happy with the ride that the Ross provided and it made it there and back with no hindrances...I'm kinda worried about taking it out on Saturday since the last two break downs have occurred ON SATURDAY!!! Lol, but I'll put it all on the line until I lose this weight! I heard of a new technology tube that has a liquid that disburses when a flat happens and I'm going to go get one today. I'll keep you updated on the progress, and how the tire does!

2nd week, 2nd rim?
July 11th.
Monday came and went and I just drove to work, didn't feel good about. I mean, what would one of my friends do if thier bike broke down? They'd get it fixed and keep riding, thats what! Tuesday I decided I was going to take my bike in and ride in on my back up, even got a guy from work to join me. Well I dropped the bike off thinking he was going to tell me I needed new bearings or something and he ended up showing me I had a bent rim. I was looking at some really nice rims when my buddy told me I should just buy a Felt bike! He said that if I bought those expensive rims and put them on my bike, that it would be the equivelent of buying an 88 beater car and putting 2000 dollar rims on it, just not right! I decided to go with just a standard rim and implored the sales rep that I needed my bike or wednesday due to the fact that we ride big trips on wednesday and thursday nights(those are my buddies days off). I proceeded to take my back up bike in to work and even get about 14 miles on it that day, but that thing is rough! I mean riding it was like having to pedal twice as hard for everything, it sucked. As soon as I got home that night I decided I wasn't going to ride that back up again, I needed a new bike so that I wouldn't have these problems, a bike that can handle getting me around town(my 261 lb frame). Having the Rhino back helped and I rode 18.4 miles wednesday night, but it wasn't going to be enough (as I would find out in days to come. On the 14th I took my bike to work and back(14 miles that day) no problems and on the 15th I rode it again, I was getting the hang of this and it was getting easier everyday! I took the bike to practice again (18 miles) I went straight there and straight back, but on this day it was 90 degrees out and my mother gave me a call before work pleeding with me not to take the bike to work, she said it was too hot! I told her what she wanted to hear and set out on my journey once again. Boy was I wrong! I popped a flat three blocks from the house, almost the exact same spot as the rim went out...Arg! I walked back home and grabbed my car, now I need a new tire. Things seem to pile up sometimes, but I keep a positive outlook on things. I recently applied for sponsorship from Felt so that I can get a more durable bike so we'll see where that takes me and I'll be keeping you updated the whole way!

The first night....
July 7th, the day after my 13th anniversary with my wife, I decided to start this exercise. The guys, who had been biking all day, were going to meet me at my house when I got off work(11pm) and we were gonna go on my maiden voyage. They did and I was ready...They started off thinking we should take it slow, they didn't know what I was capable of(neither did I). We did two miles and I told them we should ride to my work, seemed like the logical thing to do, after all my goal was to ride to and from work to start losing this weight. We made it to my work and back and I found out just what I could handle that night! About ten miles on my first night gave me confidence, heck I even biked to work the next day like it was no big deal(another ten miles). Saturday brought a new and exciting trail, I play in a worship band at my church and we practice on Saturdays....8 miles away from my house, no problem in a car but I wanted to push my limits! I biked ten miles there(went for a detour or two) and then biked ten miles back, 20 miles in one day! But I wasn't finished, if I could ride to work and home I'd have around 30 miles on my third day of biking...yet another accomplishment for my overweight self. I decided to give it a try, headed out for work around two o'clock and heard some clicking the whole way, it really bothered me so I called a couple friends trying to explain what I was hearing and what I could do about it?! After a whole lot to do about nothing, they all told me "it's normal". A little side story here, I didn't own a great bike, I was given a Rhino from one of my friends and had owned a next(both grocery store bikes) not quite tour de France ya know? So I set out for my journey home after 8 hours of work and 25.5 miles I was ready for the last five and a good nights rest, that didn't happen! I made it almost all the way home and my back tire locked up, I'm sitting here thinking it's a brake problem(had saw a friend deal with one the night before). I walked the bike home 4 blocks, luckily it was so close to the house! I don't know what I would do if I was 4 miles out. Once I got it home the next thing to do was get it fixed, I had a back up bike I was prepared to use until it was done, the up coming week was going to be filled with stumbling blocks!
Back story
The back story...
My name is Dan Maynard, I'm 29 and married with two children. I'm an everyday Joe(Dan). Thing is, I recently visited the doctor after my 29th birthday because of my back(I'm not too much of a doctor guy, I was in a lot of pain though). After meeting my new doctor and him promptly giving me a physical right there in the room, he told me something that's gonna forever change my life! He told me I needed to lose 51 lbs. Now I wasn't that excited at the thought of "eating healthy" and "exercising" but as I get older I think more, and more for my kids than for me, so I decided to give it a try. First things first, buying fruits and vegetables to take the place of greasey potato chips and junk food, and buying Lean Cuisine's instead of hungry man's...That was hard! I don't just like food, I love it. But if I'm gonna have any chance at losing this weight(and becoming more healthy) then I need to change certain things in my lifestyle...That meant quiting smoking too!!! The exercising was gonna be hard too, when do I have the time? I wake up, make food for the kids, shower and go to work. By the time I come home it's a couple minutes with the wife and then bed-time. I ad no clue! Luck was about to come my way though, a friend of mine had recently taken up biking to get to work and around town since he lost his license. Well, I have my license, but I've ridden bikes before, I was a kid...and in fact, it's a pretty good way of exercising and staying in shape, I'm gonna give it a try!
